19th Century Oak floor installed in Fife, ScotlandFife, Scotland
Just a note to say how pleased we are with our 19th Century French Oak flooring.
Our home is late Regency (built in 1819) and has seen many changes in that time. At one point, it suffered a serious fire. In the Drawing Room it seems that anything that was not destroyed by the fire had succumbed to dry rot by the 1980s and the result was that all of the original flooring had gone. In most of the other rooms of the house, the original flooring had similarly been lost.
In our effort to recognise the practicalities of the 21st Century, but at the same time be sympathetic to the history of the house, we installed new but “aged” and dark stained oak engineered boards in the upstairs rooms of the house. Whilst we are pleased with the quality of the finish, despite the supplier’s best efforts to “antique” the flooring, it is still too uniform to pass for original. The flooring does not give the sense of history of the house that we wished to achieve in the principal rooms.
In comparison to that flooring, the Drummond product costs more. As you know, we were hesitant about whether the extra cost would be worth it. We are glad we listened to you and are grateful for your patience with us as we deliberated the various options. I can say that without a shadow of a doubt, it was the right decision. The floor looks as if it has participated in the nearly 200 years of the house’s history and been lovingly cared for during that time.
Martin and Andy worked long days not only to install the oak floor, but they were also able to find time to restore the original 19thcentury pine floor in the Dining Room – one of the few original features remaining in the house. The one inch thick Baltic pine had been cut and abused over the years to install electrics and heating to the point where the general consensus was it was beyond salvage. What a mistake that would have been. The finished result is stunning and really adds to the patina of the house. Perhaps the benchmark test is that, although it is in an adjoining room to the “new” floor, both look completely in harmony, notwithstanding the different wood type. We will endeavour to follow Andy and Martin’s words of advice on maintenance of the floors to ensure that the floors can be enjoyed for years to come.
As a footnote, you mentioned to us that carpenters working on sites you visit often suggest that Drummond’s timber is sent back as it has natural splits and is not tongue and groove. You prognosis was correct. Our main contractor’s workmen (who have done a great job in installing the other floors) were pretty sceptical about all of this rough old wood. However, I am glad to report that when Martin and Andy had completed their work, our local workmen were all impressed with the transformation of these two floors.
I seldom write unsolicited letters such as this but I am pleased to do so in this case as I believe that your company does a tremendous thing in helping to maintain and restore the heritage of our country.

I have to tell you how pleased we are with the work you and your fellows did the colour is marvelous and today, your fellows came by, at very short notice, to roll the fridge back into place so I could use the kitchen over this weekend. I just wanted to drop you a short note about Martin and Andy. They are great ambassadors for your company. They were always very courteous and cheerful while they were in the house. Also, they stayed in a cottage we normally rent and they left it exactly as they found it and of course we were very happy with their work.
19th century Oak floor supplied and finishedWoking, Surrey
We recently carried out a refurbishment of our home office. As part of the refurbishment we decided to install oak flooring. However we wanted flooring that was different from the usual “off the shelf” new oak flooring that is widely available on the market – something with character, texture and interest.
We visited Drummonds (nr Petworth) and found them to be very helpful. They provided a first class service at all stages of the process. They helped us to decide on the type of oak flooring (19th Century reclaimed oak) and the finish.
Where Drummonds really excelled was their after sales service. The floorboards were delivered and unloaded very efficiently. We used our own carpenter to install the floorboards. This resulted in a number of queries relating to the installation of the floorboards, all of which Drummonds responded to very promptly and efficiently.
Finally, we used Drummonds to finish the floorboards (sanding, oiling etc) and the workmen provided lots of helpful advice regarding the ongoing maintenance and cleaning of the floorboards. All-in-all highly recommended.

In our Georgian house, Drummonds gave us new floors. The result has surpassed our expectations, transforming the house in both look and feel. The greatest compliment of all is that people think the floors are original.
From start to finish their service has been first-rate – clear, detailed, responsive to concerns, friendly and efficient. We cannot recommend them too highly.
Reclaimed 19th Century Oak floor and restoration projectIsle of Wight
Drummonds laid a new floor for us, using reclaimed 19th century oak, as well as restoring our existing Honduran pine parquet floor. The oak floor was going down as part of a new kitchen and so the scheduling was important in order to fit in with all the other elements of the project.
From my first telephone call, the whole process was manged with ease and efficiency being able to accommodate the Summer holidays as well as the requirements of our carpenters, tilers, plumbers and electricians.
Damien and Martin, who laid the floor, were charming and finished the job ahead of schedule to an excellent standard as well as keeping disruption to a minimum. The final result was exactly what we’d been hoping for and the whole process had been a genuine pleasure.
In addition, Damien and Martin came back and worked a minor miracle on a large area of Honduran pine floor desperately in need of attention after some years of neglect.
We now have a warm and glowing wooden floor which has transformed the character of our house and is something of which we are very proud.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Drummonds.
